Spending Habits Start Young – Get Your Kids on the Right Foot Now
Teaching your kids to be responsible with their money is more important than ever in this economy. This book begins by teaching your child how to set a goal and motivates them to save for it. They then learn how to budget their income by first deciding how to allocate money for:spendinggivingsaving
The weekly tracker sheets include a virtual savings jar they can color in as they continue to save for their goal. Let this book be your child’s first step in learning to be responsible with their money. They won’t learn this critical lesson in a regular grade-school curriculum.

This Book Breaks it Down Into Clear Steps:
Step 1: Set a goal (What are you saving for?)

Step 3: Calculate how long it will take to reach your savings goal (formula & calendar provided).
Step 4: Decide which charity to donate a portion of your income
Step 5: How to set up money jars (visual motivation)
Step 6: Enter your income, color in your virtual money jars, and watch your money grow!
Set A Goal

Motivate
At the beginning of the book, your child is asked to think about why they are planning to save money. What’s that one special thing they hope to get out of this?
This will be their motivation: the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Calculate
Next, your child will be asked to consider what percentage of their income they would like to save, how much they will donate to charity, and how much they can spend now.
We’ve included formulas to help them calculate percentages and determine dollar values. A calendar is also included so they can see how close they are to reaching their goal.

Donate
While setting an overall goal, it’s important to consider where your child wants to donate money.
Charity is an important part of money management, and your child is encouraged to consider what is near and dear to their heart. Do they love animals? They can give to a shelter. Whatever it is, it should be something meaningful to them.
Time to Start Saving!

Money Jars
Once your child has determined their goal, it’s time to assign labels to three real money jars: save, spend, and give.

Your Virtual Money Jar
The virtual money jar will sit on the left page throughout the book. Once the values are added to the right page, they can color their progress.

How Much to Add
Earlier in the book, formula examples are given to help your child learn to divide their income (based on the percentages they calculated earlier). Each time they receive income, they will use this sheet to calculate where the money goes.
